An estimated 16.8 million people in the U.S. are caring for a child or child with disabilities or complex medical needs. The demands of daily life and chronic stress can negatively affect parent caregivers’ mental and physical well-being.
Resources to support these families are so limited that the majority of care is provided in the family home, by parents, guardians, and siblings. These families are “hidden” from society and the burdens they face physically and financially are overwhelming.
Spreading Sunshine is proud to partner with the producers of the award-winning documentary, “Unseen: How We are Failing Parent Caregivers and Why It Matters”.
The documentary takes a raw, honest look at the parent caregiving experience. If caregivers are ever going to get the support and resources they deserve, they first have to be seen and heard. The Unseen documentary puts faces and stories to this issue to enable change for the caregivers in our community. Our hope is to offer solutions and support.
