By Dawn Graczyk, Sunshine Mom
The plan is in motion. The first stops are confirmed. It’s crazy and risky but so is the life we are living right here.
I hope you will follow me on this journey. It’s sure to have it’s ups and downs. I may wonder why I started and consider turning back. There will be rough patches and detours and road construction. We will eat too much garbage and complain about the time in the car. But we will GO. We will keep moving and in this way we tell time, “You will not win.”
I don’t know how far I’ll make it. With the help of Spreading Sunshine, we are finding places to stay, ways to get there and people to help us make this journey.
This trip will be entirely reliant on my willingness to embrace each moment. Trust in God. Rely on the kindness of others. I’m terrified, truly, but I think of what I am losing and ponder, “Really, what do I have to lose? What is left to fear?”
We will have moments. Snapshots tucked away in our minds for the hard days ahead. Brief montages to play when it is too heavy, and we are missing someone we love. We cannot win the battle against time, but we don’t have to lie down our weapons and be defeated before the war is over.
We are All on a Journey
The fact is that we are all on a journey. So as I take mine, and you take yours I have some thoughts for you.
Embrace where you are. Find something that makes you smile. Wear the fancy dress, even if the only people who see you are in scrubs. Eat ice cream for breakfast. Splurge on that Costco cake — the one with cream cheese filling. Take the risk. Ask for help. Believe that there are people in this world who are kind and good. What greater blessing is there, than to give and receive kindness?
How will you feel the exultation of overcoming if you never step forward? Dream big, love hard, and GO. (Whatever your go looks like.)
We are going (crazy) and we are going big.
