Make Sunshine Cards

A super easy way to get involved with Spreading Sunshine is to make a Sunshine Card for a child facing medical challenges. You can share your sunshine to brighten a child’s day in three easy steps. Sunshine Cards are included in all of our Sunshine Boxes, bright and cheerful care packages, sent to children in Memphis and across the country. This is a great project to do with your family and most especially with children. This project serves as a wonderful opportunity to connect with friends, small groups, book clubs, bible study class, and as a team-building activity with your co-workers, all through a virtual experience.

Materials Needed:

Construction paper, white paper or card stock
Crayons, colored pencils or markers
Stickers including those with encouraging or uplifting messages
Paint/finger paint, scissors or glue (if you are super crafty)

1. Design Your Sunshine Card

What makes a Sunshine Card special is YOU. If you are artistic and creative, you will likely want to design your own card. If you prefer a little direction, we’ve included some templates to make it easier for you. The main thing is to smile, turn on a little music and have fun creating a little sunshine for someone.

2. Create Your Sunshine Card

Now that you’ve decided what to do, it’s time to get to work. The art may come easy to you, but you may not be quite sure what to write. Here are a few affirming messages to choose from.

  • Sending you sunshine
  • Sending smiles
  • Wishing you a sunny day
  • You are loved
  • Praying for you
  • Thinking about you. Have a bright day!

You may choose to write a personal message in your card and if you’d like to include a bible verse, you can do so. Please keep it positive and encouraging. Sign your first name only on your card and where you are from, if you like. It will mean a lot to families receiving your card to find your personal touch. Imagine them knowing you cared to share your sunshine from another state. How bright!

WHAT NOT TO SAY – Please do not write “get well” or “hope you get to feeling better.” Many of the children we serve face life-threatening illnesses.

3. Send your Sunshine Card

Once you’ve finished, you can mail or deliver your cards to our Spreading Sunshine office.
