As a part of our VBS, Mercy Hill Kids is excited to partner with Spreading Sunshine to serve families impacted by childhood illnesses or special needs. Spreading Sunshine is a nonprofit ministry based in Memphis, TN that provides practical, emotional, and spiritual support to families.
Nationally, they send Sunshine Boxes to children and families through their Year of Sunshine program. In Memphis, they work with local children’s hospitals to provide meals to families in the hospital. Also, social workers refer local families who have limited support and resources and Spreading Sunshine provides customized non-medical care and services.
Mercy Hill Church is collecting items to go in their Sunshine Boxes. Our goal is to fill 20 Sunshine Boxes. During VBS the children will be decorating the Sunshine Boxes.

Items for Sunshine Boxes
Have your child help you shop and consider what they would enjoy getting if they were in the hospital or didn’t feel well.
- Small toys that would fit in a 12″ x 9″ x 6″ box
- Books
- Colored Pencils/Crayons/Markers
- Coloring Books
- Small craft project
- Games
- Stickers
- Stuffed animals
- Light-up, musical toys (these are wonderful for children who have physical limitations)
- Sensory toys
- Glow sticks, necklaces, bracelets
